Australian engineers have created a new engine for cars with the fastest speed ever. This reports TechXplore.

The work was carried out by specialists from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Its power is twice the power of engines of a similar class, and the speed has increased to 100 thousand revolutions per minute. "One of trends in  development of electric vehicles — using motors that rotate at a higher speed. In this research project, we tried to achieve maximum speed. We managed to achieve more than 100,000 revolutions per minute, — developers say. — If an EV manufacturer like Tesla wanted to use our motor, it would take us anywhere from six months to a year to modify it to company requirements".

The most difficult part was designing the rotor — rotating part of the engine. It had to withstand huge loads and torque, and at the same time consist of traditional materials. For this, the constants of the rotor were arranged in the form of curves, and its final appearance was checked by a computer algorithm with artificial intelligence, which revealed design flaws without the need for experimental verification.

The specific power of a 200-kilowatt engine will be equal to 7  kilowatts per kilogram. In addition to electric vehicles, it can be used for ventilation and heating systems, as well as in industrial machines.
