Australian developers have successfully tested the most powerful energy laser that destroys drones

Australia's Ministry of Defense conducted a demonstration of the world's most powerful portable high-energy laser. An installation the size of a suitcase is ten times cheaper and as many times lighter than combat analogues. It weighs no more than 50 kg and is able to physically destroy drones at a distance of 1500 meters, writes New Atlas.

Corporal Patrick Flanagan explained that to work with  it is enough to press a button with a laser to track the drone, after which the computer takes over control. Another button activates the laser. The operator can quickly switch the sight between the drone's video camera, the center of gravity or one of the propellers. It only takes a few seconds to disable the camera and two to three seconds to destroy the main propeller.

The Fractl installation created by AIM Defense , has a beam with a diameter of 23.6 mm, which can hit a target at speed up to 100 km/h. At a distance of up to 1,000 meters, it is possible to set fire to drone components, and at a distance of up to 1,500 meters — only the destruction of camera sensors.

The operator himself chooses which node of the drone the weapon will be aimed at. «This can be compared to working with a scalpel &mdash ; you can cut the wires, hit the ammunition in the suspension or destroy the propeller. Thanks to high accuracy, low energy consumption is achieved – no more than is needed to boil water in a kettle, — developers explain.
