(Toronto) Auston Matthews scored in a career-high eighth straight game to help the Toronto Maple Leafs take the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 on Monday night.
Matthews donned his 11e goal of the season, breaking a tie 1-1 at 9.22 of the third period. Just 11 seconds later, Alexander Kerfoot pulled on what would become the insurance goal.
Morgan Reilly added the Maple Leafs’ other net (10-2-1).
Mitch Marner added an assist to collect a point in an eighth straight game. Matthews has obtained at least one point in his last ten meetings.
Goalkeeper Frederik Andersen blocked 31 shots to complete a three-game series sweep between the two teams in Toronto.
Elias Pettersson offered the response to the Canucks (6-10-0), who lost a fifth straight game.
Braden Holtby made 16 saves in net for the Canucks, who delivered by far their best performance of the past week after suffering two losses at the Scotiabank Arena by a cumulative score of 12-4.
