Rafael Nadal will begin his next campaign for the champion title of Roland Garros with a confrontation with Yegor Gerasimov. Will the Spaniard be able to win and what will it be? – read our forecast.
Gerasimov is not to be envied. The representative of Belarus will make his debut at Roland Garros, and immediately in the first match he will face Nadal. Earlier, Yegor repeatedly tried to get into the number of 128 participants in the main draw, but he never managed to overcome the qualification. Now Gerasimov occupies 83rd place in the world ranking, so he got there directly.
Yegor played his last matches on clay, but they were not successful. In Rome, he lost to Marco Cecchinato (2-6, 7-5, 3-6), and in Kitzbühel – to Maximilian Marterer (4-6, 4-6). He won his only victory in the first qualifying round of the same Kitzbühel, where he beat Alexander Erler (7-6, 6-3).
Nadal failed his performance in Rome. After two successful fights in the Italian capital, where he defeated Pablo Carreno-Busta (6-1, 6-1) and Dusan Lajovic (6-1, 6-3), Rafa unexpectedly lost to Diego Schwarzman (2-6, 5-7 ).
There is no doubt that the Spaniard came to Paris to prove to everyone that it was just an accident. Something similar happened last year. Then Nadal lost in Monte Carlo to Fabio Fognini, and in Madrid to Stefanos Tsitsipas. After that, he defeated almost all of his rivals in Rome. Then even Novak Djokovic got it (6-1, 4-6, 6-0). But at Roland Garros, Rafa celebrated a landslide victory, giving opponents only two games for the entire tournament.
Opponents do not have face-to-face meetings.
Egor won eight matches this year on clay. Spaniard – two.
In 4 of the last 5 first rounds at Roland Garros, Nadal has not given more than six games to his opponents.
Gerasimov does not play in the best way on the ground. He confirmed this in his last matches against Cecchinato and Marterer. It is unlikely that the representative of Belarus will be able to fight Nadal . After the fiasco in Rome, Rafa will tear and throw. Egor will be the first to fall under the hot hand of the Spaniard.
Taking into account Gerasimov’s inability to play on clay, we believe that he will not win more than seven games in this meeting.
Our prediction is the victory of Rafael Nadal, taking into account the handicap (-10.5) games for the odds of 2.00 in BC 1x
