Art Basel Miami Beach once again takes over the beach and its surroundings with a very special edition: the fair that originated in Basel in the 1970s turns 20 across the Atlantic. As always, in addition to the activities inside the Miami Beach Convention Center (open to the public December 1 and 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), there will be others at cultural institutions that participate in the event.

On Art Walk is a guided social event that will allow you to discover some of the public works of art in the open air in Miami Beach. From Lawrence Weiner to Joep van Lieshout to Abraham Cruzvillegas, you'll learn all about these public works and the artists behind them. This year's On Art Walk will be presented by independent curator Dejha Carrington.

Conversations | The Miami Effect

As Art Basel Miami Beach turns 20, this panel brings together collectors who have helped shape the city as a cultural destination. What can we learn from the Miami ecosystem and the collectors who have contributed to it? What have been your parallel journeys in the last two decades? How do they hope to inspire a new generation of collectors and nurture new artistic talent?

Leonardo Erlich, <i>Liminal</i>

 Art Basel Miami Beach: 15 activities not to be missed

“Swimming Pool”, the famous work of Leandro Erlich, can be seen and experienced at PAMM.

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) offers the first solo exhibition of Leandro Erlich in the United States, featuring 16 works selected by curator Dan Cameron , including the famous swimming pool (Swimming Pooll), which was set up by Artea, company of curators Rodolfo de Athayde and Ania Rodríguez. Throughout two decades of work by the Argentine artist, the public will be able to learn about, and experience, research on the senses and space, which questions the certainties about perception.

Conversations | Premiere: Carrie Mae Weems, Nona Hendryx, and Hans Ulrich Obrist

How do artistic kinships develop? What common passions unite creators? Conceived by Hans Ulrich Obrist, this new series of conversations Art Intersectionsbrings together professionals from all art forms to discuss their mutual affinities, interests and concerns. Artist Carrie Mae Weems, whose influential work explores cultural identity in relation to political structures, will be in dialogue with pioneering musician and artist Nona Hendryx about her multimedia experiments. Curated in collaboration with Hans Ulrich Obrist and Serpentine.

Faena Prize for the Arts: Paula de Solminihac, <i>Morning Glory</i>

< p class="paragraph">Exhibition of the winning work of this award that celebrates its 10th anniversary. The Chilean artist Paula de Solminihacwas chosen among almost 400 who sent their proposals from 72 countries. The Morning Glory survey facilityIt will be inaugurated at an event that will also feature a conversation by the jury that chose it. The 2022 edition of the award was curated by Direlia Lazo and the jury included Cecilia Alemani (curator of the 59th Venice Biennale), the Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea, Caroline Bourgeois (curator of the Pinault Collection), Ximena Caminos (artist and director of the award), Chus Martínez (in charge of the direction of the FHNW Art Institute, Basel) and José Roca (artistic director of the 23rd Sydney Biennale).

Conversations | How is art financed? New forms of philanthropy

In the wake of the covid-19 pandemic, how can philanthropy find new ways to support creators effectively and address the urgency of climate change? What new financing mechanisms should be implemented? What opportunities does technology offer to distribute funds in a transparent and collaborative way? It was discussed by the main representatives on future priorities and forms of art financing: Alberto Ibargüen (Knight Foundation), Larissa Harris, Executive Director (Teiger Foundation) and Scott Moore (Gitcoin) with the cultural adviser < b>András Szántó as moderator.

With an international cast of singers, dancers, actors and musicians, The Head & the Load, a celebrated opera by South African artist William Kentridge, sheds light on the nearly 2 million African porters and freighters who served German, French and British forces during the war. World War I in Africa. New York Timesdescribed the show as “a ferociously beautiful historical parade of music, movement and shadow play that brings these lost African fighters to life.”
