The German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is concerned about the high losses of the Ukrainian army in the battles for Bakhmut, Donetsk region. Der Spiegel writes about this.
Representatives of the German foreign intelligence service informed German politicians at a secret meeting in the Bundestag that the Ukrainian army daily loses in the battles near Bakhmut three-digit number of soldiers.
According to the German intelligence service,  ;the occupation of Bakhmut by the occupiers will have serious consequences, as it will allow Russian troops to move further deep into Ukraine.
Representatives of the BND note that the Russian army operated near Bakhmut with “merciless cruelty”, throwing soldiers into the attack like “cannon fodder.”
Bakhmut remains the main hot spot at the front. Fighting for the city has been ongoing since July 2022. Ukrainian positions are being stormed mainly by Wagner PMC mercenaries.
Military analysts believe that the capture of Bakhmut is rather symbolic for Russia.
Over the past week, the Russian side has at least three times announced the capture of Soledar Evgeny Prigozhin, then the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, and then representatives of the so-called “DPR”. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not confirm the loss of the city.
On January 20, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the capture of Kleschievka, a southern suburb of Bakhmut. The day before, Prigogine said that Kleshchievka was captured by detachments of his mercenaries.
BAGNET reminds that in Ukraine the number of dead military personnel has been classified.
