Apple will release Mac mini this year: what chips are waiting for users

The upcoming Mac mini, which is expected to be released later this year, will switch from M2 immediately to the M4 chip presented in the latest iPad Pro.

In addition to the new chip, the desktop computer will receive a significant design update – the first since the release of the first mini in 2010. The device will have a much smaller size, closer to the Apple TV set-top box, reports known insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

The new mini is expected to have at least three ports USB-C, as well as a power connector and an HDMI port. The Mac mini with the base M2 had 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2 USB-A ports, HDMI, an Ethernet port, and a mini headphone jack. The Mac mini version with the M2 Pro received 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports at once, the rest are the same as in the basic version.

The Mac mini with the basic M2 costs $599 ($799 for the version with a 512 GB drive instead of 256 GB), Pro -version with M2 Pro – $1299. It remains to be seen whether Apple will change the prices of the Mac mini after the design change. Gurman believes the new mini could be cheaper to manufacture.

Apple is likely to launch a Mac mini with the M4 in late 2024 or early 2025. A Pro version will come later with the not-yet-released M4 Pro.
