The past few years have brought significant growth and innovation to the MacBook thanks to Apple Silicon chips. However, there are still limitations that prevent the Mac from fully unlocking its potential.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine (Styler project) with reference to the leading Apple news site 9to5Mac.
Lack of cellular connectivity and a “bang” cutout
Since the end of the difficult period in the 2010s and the launch of Apple Silicon, the Macbook has developed steadily: the company regularly releases new device designs and processors, and macOS updates are becoming more synchronized with iOS.
However, some problems still remained, and judging by the latest news, Apple plans to fix at least two of them.
In the past few days, two exciting pieces of news have emerged:
- According to Mark Gurman, Apple is developing its own modems for the first Macs with cellular connectivity
- According to Omdia, future MacBook Pro models with OLED screens will get rid of the notch (“bang”) in favor of a design with a hole for the camera
Both of these features are likely to all, will appear no earlier than 2026, and possibly in 2027. But when it does, they will solve two of the most annoying problems of the Macbook.
Why the iPad Pro is ahead of the Mac in key technologies
The iPad Pro with the M4 processor is used by many as a primary device thanks to Apple's greater attention to its development. For example, Face ID was introduced on the iPhone in 2017 and on the iPad Pro in 2018, but it's still missing on the Mac, even though it would be useful on devices like the MacBook and iMac.
The iPad has supported cellular since its launch 14 years ago, but the feature has never been added to the Mac, making using a hotspot with an iPhone inconvenient and power-hungry.
Also, the notch on the MacBook looks outdated, especially when compared to modern technologies like the iPhone's “Dynamic Island”.
