Apple is expected to release iPhones with thinner OLED displays next year

Taiwanese company Novatek announced plans to start mass production of OLED displays with TDDI (touch and display driver integration) technology ) as early as the second quarter of 2025, reports DigiTimes, a publication dedicated to supply chains.

The publication says that Apple is expected to be among Novatek's first customers, although this statement appears to be quite speculative.

“While industry insiders remain tight-lipped about potential end customers, speculation suggests that Novatek's proposed delivery schedule could coincide with the release of the next generation of iPhone displays in 2025,– is reported in the article.

If these assumptions turn out to be true, then at least some iPhone 17 models will be able to use this technology as early as next year.

Given that TDDI technology will allow Apple devices to use thinner OLED displays, this technology seems particularly suitable for the rumored ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.

It is not yet clear whether Apple will actually implement this technology. The report also says that the company may initially use it in less mainstream products compared to the iPhone, such as future iPad models and the Apple Watch, and that the technology may be suitable for the long-rumored foldable iPhone or iPad.
