Apple Continues Development of Larger iMac with 30-inch Display

Apple continues to work on a new iMac with a display larger than 30 inches, but details about its development stage and possible release schedule are still unknown.< /p>

Following the launch of the Mac Studio and 27-inch Studio Display in March 2022, the company discontinued the 27-inch Intel-based iMac. A year ago, Apple also stopped production of the iMac Pro, and in November 2023 confirmed that it does not plan to release a new 27-inch iMac.

Despite these changes and attempts to encourage customers to purchase a 24-inch iMac or Mac Studio/Studio Display, rumors about a new large iMac with a display of more than 30 inches do not subside. Initially, such a monoblock was believed to be in the early stages of development from mid-2023, but recent news has been limited.

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman gave new reason for hope. In his latest report, he confirmed that Apple continues to explore the possibility of a large iMac. However, it is currently unclear whether the new model will be equipped with an M4 processor. Apple plans to upgrade the 24-inch iMac to the M4 chip by the end of the year, but that may be too early for the large iMac given its stage of development.

A new large iMac with the M4 chip could arrive in 2025 , along with updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio. Another possibility — that Apple will wait for the release of the M5 processor, and then the large-diagonal iMac could be introduced in 2026 or later.

Although the exact size of the new iMac has not yet been confirmed, the display will probably exceed 30 inches. At 32 inches, it will match the dimensions of the 6K Pro Display XDR, which sells for $5,000. As for the design, we can expect thinner bezels and possibly the absence of a “chin”, but there are no details yet.
