Donald Trump is “safe and sound” following a shooting near his Florida golf club, the former president's campaign, who is running for re-election in November, announced Sunday.

The former president, who was at his Florida golf club, was reportedly “safe and sound after shots were fired near him,” Stephen Cheng, Donald Trump's campaign communications director, said, adding that “no further details are available at this time,” Voice of America reports.

According to Reuters, Trump himself sent an email to his campaign after the incident, saying that “shots were fired near me, but before rumors get out of hand, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND HEALTHY!".

According to CNN, the incident involved a shootout near the Trump International Golf Club. The channel reported this citing representatives of the former president's election campaign.

BAGNET recalls that on July 13, Trump was injured in a shooting that killed one person and injured two people who were attending a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

This security lapse led to the resignation of the head of the Secret Service and the temporary suspension of at least five agents of this unit, which is responsible for protecting the highest officials in the country.
