Android 16 will feature mandatory dark mode for all apps

Insider reports that Google intends to solve the problem of the lack of a “mandatory” dark mode in Android 16. This proposal was put forward for discussion back in 2024, but was never implemented in Android 15.

What is known about Android 16

Now, according to rumors, the feature has appeared in the beta version of Android 16 beta 1 and is called “Make more apps dark”. Simply put, this is a forced dark mode for all applications on the smartphone.

As noted by the Tom’s Guide portal, this will allow applications to automatically switch to dark mode, optimizing colors to save energy. That is, if earlier, when turning on the dark theme on a smartphone, not all applications « obeyed» this command, after enabling the new option, the situation will change.

However, this function still remains hidden and is available only to experienced users. It was indicated that some skill with Android is required to open the settings. Perhaps the function will be open to everyone after the stable release of Android 16.
