The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the eurozone was 6.3% in September 2024, down from 6.6% in September 2023. According to Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the EU was 5.9% in September 2024 against 6.1% in September 2023.

This is reported by Staffing Industry Analysts.

< p>According to Eurostat estimates, 13.042 million people were unemployed in the EU in September, including 10.8 million in the eurozone. Compared to August, the number of people without work increased by 61,000 in the EU and by 13,000 in the eurozone, while compared to August last year, it decreased by 226,000 in the EU and by 330,000 in the eurozone.

< p>In September of this year, the highest unemployment rate was in:

  • Spain – 11.2%;
  • Greece – 9.3%;
  • Sweden – 8.5%;
  • Slovakia – 5.2%;
  • Hungary – 4.5%;
  • Poland – 2.9%.

The lowest is in the Czech Republic – 2.8%.

Among young people, the level unemployment in the EU rose to 14.8% in September from 14.5% in August. Thus, 2.861 million people under the age of 25 remained unemployed in the EU compared to 2.287 million in the Eurozone.

Eurostat bases its calculations on the common standard definition adopted by the International Labor Organization (ILO). According to this definition, the unemployed are those who have been actively looking for work in the last four weeks and can start looking for work within two weeks.
