The official who headed one of the ministries looked for a husband through a TV show

A former participant in the television reality show “Farmer is looking for a wife” in the Netherlands, 39-year-old official from the northern province of Friesland Femke Wiersma will head the Ministry of Agriculture in the country's new government, Politico reports.

Wiersma is a co-founder of the “Farmer-Citizens' Movement” (BBV)– party, which emerged in 2019 as a protest against government decisions to limit the use of nitrogen fertilizers for farmers and which last year unexpectedly won elections to the upper house of the Dutch parliament.

BBB, according to the agreement of the government coalition, will receive two top positions in the renewed Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature – minister and secretary of state.

While Wiersma will become minister, the 71-year-old official Jean Rummenie is planned to be appointed to the position of secretary of state.
