An initiative aims to include people with disabilities more

People with disabilities called on Wednesday in front of the Federal Palace in Bern for greater political participation and independent living. They presented their new national initiative for inclusion.

By ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Switzerland is committed to guaranteeing them an independent life, as well as their participation and inclusion. So far, Switzerland has not sufficiently fulfilled this obligation, disability organizations said.

Ten years after the introduction of what these organizations see as a “minimalist” AI assistance contribution, people with disabilities presented their grassroots initiative on Wednesday. This requires that people with disabilities receive the necessary human and technical resources, through assistance, for full and autonomous participation in society, politics, economy and culture.

According to Islam Alijaj, co-initiator and president of the Tatkraft association, it is about ensuring real participation, real respect and real choices. The other organizations behind the initiative are the Swiss Federation of the Deaf, the Swiss Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted, the umbrella organization of the disabled people ‘s organizations Inclusion Handicap and the association “Mensch zuerst”.
