An expert explained the meaning of the cameras in AirPods

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has explained why Apple is including cameras in future AirPods.

What else is known

“The small cameras are not designed for photography, but rather serve as infrared sensors”, – the article says.

Kuo said that the headphones, along with the Apple Vision Pro headset, will improve spatial sound.

“For example, when a user watches a video with the Vision Pro and wears the new AirPods, when they turn their head to look in a certain direction, the sound source in that direction can be highlighted for a better perception of reality”, – the expert explained.

He added that the cameras could provide “gesture control in the air”. This would allow interaction with the device using hands.

The article specifies that if the production timelines do not change, AirPods with cameras could appear in 2026 or 2027.
