Analogue of Skynex: Polish gunsmiths decided to use a ship's gun against UAVs

Observers were quick to jokingly call it a “boat on wheels”, but it is a system that will be equipped with modern programmable ammunition and a high-precision gun.< /p>

The Polish defense company PIT-RADWAR plans to present its new self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery installation at the MSPO exhibition, which will be held in Kielce. The system will be designed for “kinetic impact on drones” and will be based on the chassis of the Polish-made Jelcz truck, and as the main armament it is expected to use a 35-mm naval artillery installation. President of the board of PIT-RADWAR, Marek Boreyko, told about this in an interview with Defence24.

According to him, such weapons systems are extremely important on the modern battlefield, and the experience of conducting military operations in Ukraine proves this.

“The Ukrainian experience shows that non-kinetic systems based on communication and navigation disruptions against drones with optical fiber guidance or with elements of operational automation. And today, kinetic and artillery systems remain the main element of military defense,” — said Boreyko.

As for the characteristics of the new system, only the general details of the new development are currently known. As noted reviewers of Defense Express, full characteristics and appearance of the installation will be made public immediately before the exhibition. For now, we can only assume what the system will look like and function.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the specialized resources jokingly called the installation a “boat on wheels”, equipped with a Soviet 30-mm naval AK-230 paired artillery installation. However, a photo of the machine was also published on the network, which, according to the description, corresponds to a “35 mm naval gun mount on a Jelcz chassis”. base of the same 35-mm Triton gun mount, which was created generally for minesweepers under the Kormoran project for the Polish Navy, but the status regarding this development looks ambiguous,” — analysts write.

According to Boreik, the decision to use the 35-mm gun is due to its accuracy, as well as the use of new programmable ammunition. In addition, the complex will be equipped with elements of detection, tracking of targets and fire control.

In general, experts added, Polish gunsmiths seek to create a domestic analogue of the well-known Skynex system. And although many questions about the capabilities of the system should be answered by its presentation at the exhibition, the desire to create a similar installation is probably caused by the fact that the Polish forces could not hit the Russian “Shakhed”, referring to “adverse weather conditions”.
