The US Department of Justice has filed new charges against Hunter Biden, the US president's son, CNN reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

CNN reported that the exact nature of the lawsuits was not immediately clear as court documents had not yet been made public.

The American network, however, mentions nine accusations, including the fact of not having paid its taxes, of having escaped an audit, as well as than having provided a false or fraudulent tax return.

Neither the spokesperson for the special prosecutor David Weiss, appointed last August, nor Hunter Biden's lawyer immediately responded to requests for comment.

Joe Biden's son was expected to plead guilty in July to two counts of willful failure to pay income tax as part of a deal with the Department of Justice, but the judge in the case said she could not accept the agreement as is and needed more time to review it.
