AMD introduced “variable graphics memory” for laptops

AMD introduced Variable Graphics Memory (VGM), which allows users to dynamically allocate up to 75% of system RAM for graphics processing.

This technology, available now on AMD AI 300 "Strix Point" notebooks, simplifies memory management without having to go into the BIOS. For example, a laptop with 32 GB of RAM and 512 MB of video memory can be turned into a laptop with 8 GB of dedicated VRAM using the "medium" setting.

The first tests on the Asus Zenbook S 16 showed mixed results . While some games, such as Control, saw a noticeable improvement in frame rates (65fps vs. 54fps), other games saw minimal performance gains, and some even saw a slight drop.

In addition to VGM, AMD is also implementing FMF 2 as part of a "technical preview". This technology generates additional frames to increase smoothness.
