AMD has developed a special server processor for Microsoft

AMD has fulfilled Microsoft's order to create a special processor designed for the software giant's servers.

According to a Microsoft press release, the companies have jointly created a specialized fourth-generation Epyc processor equipped with HBM3 memory.

It will be used in Azure HBv5 virtual machines. In particular, we are talking about systems that use four such processors simultaneously, which allows you to achieve a memory bandwidth of almost 7 TB/s.

It can be noted that the HBM3 memory in these processors is in a sense an alternative to the 3D V-Cache cache, but with a much larger volume – about 112 GB per processor.

This processor also includes 88 Zen 4 cores operating at a frequency of up to 4 GHz, with Hyper-Threading Technology (SMT) disabled.
