AMD company “blamed” Intel for the shortage of new Ryzen – competitors make too bad chips

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, released in November, is called the best solution for games. However, not everyone who wanted to buy the new “stone” was able to buy it. Retailers quickly ran out of stock, and Amazon was flooded with fake Ryzen processors.

“We created a great processor. But we didn't know that the competitor would develop such a terrible one. So the demand turned out to be significantly higher than we expected,” – answered AMD's chief gaming architect Frank Azor when asked about the reasons for the shortage of Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

AMD complained that the failure of the Intel Core Ultra 200 created unprecedented demand for the 7000 and 9000 series X3D processors and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in particular, as a result of which the chipmaker urgently needs to increase production capacity.

It's no secret that current Intel CPUs showed unsatisfactory gaming performance at the start. In particular, a microcode update that was supposed to increase performance reduced it in some games. And in general, the processors turned out to be not as competitive as expected.

Meanwhile, AMD is preparing to release Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D. The company calls the processors “the best for gamers and content creators.” Thus, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D outperforms all its competitors, including the flagship Core Ultra 9 285K, by up to 64%.

Last fall, two new AMD processors went on sale for the outdated AM4 socket, which remains a popular basis for entry-level/mid-level gaming PCs. These are overclocked modifications of the “popular” Ryzen 5 5600 and 5600X.

A recent Steam survey showed which PC most gamers in the world play on in early 2025. The most popular video card remains the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, while more and more gamers are switching to AMD processors.
