A lawyer retained by Robert Miller while he was under police investigation nearly 15 years ago allegedly advised alleged victims to lie for his client's benefit, according to new statements filed in the lawsuit. class action against the billionaire.

On December 4, six testimonies were added to the proceedings of the class action, which has not yet been authorized but which now has 47 participants. These women all say they were sexually exploited by the businessman when they were minors, allegations that span decades.

Two of the new participants, identified in their statements as Mrs. 47 and Mrs. 48, say criminal lawyer Stephen Angers pressured them to lie to authorities about their ages during their interactions with Robert Miller.

In February, Radio-Canada's Enquête revealed that Robert Miller, the wealthy owner of Future Electronics, had spent years recruiting underage girls, whom he paid for sexual relations. . Robert Miller has always denied the facts with which he is accused.

The case was the subject of an investigation by the SPVM in 2008-2009, but no charges had been filed at the time.

These recent statements detail how the work of attorney Stephen Angers, who was at the time retained by Robert Miller, may have harmed the police effort. /p>

Last September, the criminal lawyer was named a co-defendant in a $9.5 million lawsuit filed against the billionaire. The plaintiff claims that Mr. Angers would have at the time prevented the victims from speaking to investigators about their experiences within the network run by Miller.

Me Angers contests these procedures.

However, the name of the Montreal criminal lawyer resurfaced this week. In their testimonies, Madame 47 and Madame 48 say they were questioned by the SPVM in 2008 or 2009 as part of the police investigation targeting Robert Miller.

They both then allegedly admitted to investigators that they had paid sexual relations with the businessman when they were minors.< /p>

After this meeting, they say they communicated with Robert Miller and his associate Joseph – nickname used by Sam Abrams, close to Miller and high-ranking at Future Electronics – to explain to them what had happened.

Madame 47 says that Joseph then ordered them to stop talking to the police, and that the Miller clan gave them each thousands of dollars to buy our silence.

Then, Joseph allegedly arranged a meeting with Stephen Angers, whom Madame 48 describes as being Robert Miller's lawyer at the time. The criminalist would have explained to them how to proceed.

He also told us that we would have to make a false declaration to say that we had miscalculated and that we were in fact adults during our first meetings with "Bob", claims Madame 48 in her statement.

Me Angers would then have accompanied them to the courthouse, where they say they spoke to a woman whose identity they did not know.

She wore a special outfit, but I'm not sure if it was a lawyer's or a judge's dress, said Madame 48. We lied, like M .Angers told us to do, and we said that "Bob" had helped us and that we had been adults during our first meetings with him.

Mrs. 47 also said she felt obliged to lie to this woman: I did it because I was afraid.

In response to questions from Radio-Canada, a spokesperson for the Barreau du Québec writes that no lawyer can encourage his client to lie or commit any act of an illegal nature.

The Bar could not confirm or deny the processes of an investigation concerning Me Angers, for reasons of confidentiality.

The SPVM was unable to comment on this matter.

Neither Stephen Angers nor Sam Abrams did not respond to questions from Radio-Canada.

In addition to the class action led by the Consumer Law Group, Robert Miller is also targeted by three individual lawsuits, which total nearly $30 million in damages.

The businessman, who has always denied these allegations, contests the procedures. His lawyer did not respond to our questions regarding the relationship between Robert Miller and Stephen Angers.
