All information about the charging speed of the Google Pixel 9 smartphone

All information about the charging speed of the Google Pixel 9 smartphone

When Google introduced the Pixel 9 phones, it seemed that they would support 45W charging. But that's not really the case.

That would be tempting, given that Google has released a new 45W charger with the phones and is touting “faster charging”. However, a look at the specs reveals that none of the Pixel 9 phones can achieve that speed.

Only the Pixel 9 Pro XL model can really take advantage of the new charger. Here's what the wired charging speed looks like for each model:

  • Pixel 9 – up to 27 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro – up to 27 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL – up to 37 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold – up to 21 W

It is also worth mentioning the speed of wireless charging:

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000
  • Pixel 9 – up to 15 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro – up to 21 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL – up to 23 W
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold – certified according to the Qi standard

These wireless charging figures are based on the use of the second generation Google Pixel charging station; without it, you'll only get 12W via Qi. The Pixel 9 models don't support Qi 2.

You can't say that Google is deliberately lying about charging speeds or not mentioning 45W, but it might not be entirely obvious without looking closely. It looks like the phones have been bumped up to 45W this year.

The charger is offered as an optional extra as the phones only come with a cable. Moreover, when charging time values such as "up to 55% in about 30 minutes" for the regular Pixel 9, this is tested with a 45W charger, which means you need that device to get these results.

However, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold can work with with a Google 30W charger, which is currently not available in the official store.
