The Alien license returns to horror

Disney seems to have found the magic recipe to rehabilitate the Alien license. With Romulus (released in theaters last Wednesday, August 14), the company with the big ears has managed to restore the license to its former glory, thanks to the work of Uruguayan director Fede Álvarez, a great fan of Xenomorphs and a specialist in horror cinema. He is the one who made the remake of Evil Dead (2013) and Don't Breathe in 2016.

Those who are fond of horror, science fiction, ships with narrow corridors and a sticky atmosphere were able to enjoy Alien Isolation, the survival horror game by Creative Assembly released in 2013. A game praised for the AI - at the time – very efficient of the creature, which relentlessly hunted us in every nook and cranny of the Sevastopol space station. Change of register with a TPS multiplayer called Aliens: Fireteam Elite in 2021 then Aliens: Dark Descent, a real-time strategy game released in 2023.

10 years old, the license finally returns to horror with Alien: Rogue Incursion. The Californian studio Survios offers a very horrific VR experience, but more oriented towards action according to the trailers released and the gameplay reveal. “In addition to weapons and equipment, your ingenuity, quick reflexes, and ability to remain calm under terrifying pressure are required to survive,” the studio promises.

With the release of Alien: Romulus, the studio took advantage of the momentum to (re)present its baby announced for December 19th with a new trailer in which the protagonist Zula Hendricks, a former member of the Colonial Marines, destroys Xenomorphs in the heart of a research center on the unexplored planet Purdan. The studio has not forgotten the survival horror side that characterizes the license with special work done on lighting, sound design and the discretion that the player must have in order not to attract the creatures. These are essential conditions to make the VR experience as terrifying as possible.

Alien: Rogue Incursion will be available on PlayStation VR2 (39.99 euros), Meta Quest 3 (36.99 euros) and Steam VR (28.99 euros).
