A week after being transferred to a strict regime colony in Melehovo, opposition leader Alexei Navalny received his first reprimand. He announced this on his Instagram.

“No, I should not be a prisoner who has embarked on the path of correction. I’ve only been in my cozy strict regime zone for only a week, and I’ve already been slapped with “a reprimand with the rights of the head of the institution,” he wrote.

In total, according to the oppositionist, he has already accumulated 30 reprimands, which were supposed to burn on August 30 – a year after the last one. But it turned out that on the eve of the transfer to a new colony, another report was drawn up against Navalny, allegedly for violating the uniform: in the morning the politician went to wash in a T-shirt, and not in a prison uniform.

“So that you understand: at 6-30 in the morning all the prisoners wash and shave and everyone goes to the washbasin in T-shirts. But I was walking dangerously! I walked like an extremist, and my T-shirt threatened the current government. Therefore, my new zone, having considered the letter from the old zone, summoned me to the commission, condemned me for such lawlessness and issued a new reprimand. So my 30 previous reprimands are now with me for another year,” Navalny wrote.

According to the oppositionist, now he can be recognized as a malicious violator at any moment and sent to a punishment cell, “where you can easily or die from “pneumonia” or break your neck falling off the bunk.”

Prisoners in IK-6 in Melekhov complained of torture more than once. In March last year, Mediazona published excerpts from a letter from former prisoner Ivan Fomin, in which he describes cases of beatings, torture and sexual abuse. Navalny became aware that he would be transferred to Melehovo back in the spring. Then he said that the prisoners were telling him that a “prison in prison” was being prepared for the oppositionist in the colony.

In March 2022, Navalny was sentenced by the Lefortovo Court of Moscow to 9 years in prison and a fine, he was found guilty of fraud on a particularly large scale. The court found that Navalny and his colleagues from the FBK illegally collected donations and spent them on personal needs. Navalny denies his guilt and calls the case a political one.

On May 24, the Moscow City Court rejected the politician's appeal against the verdict, and it came into force. According to the new sentence, Navalny must serve his sentence in a strict regime colony.

On June 14, 2022, he was transferred from a general regime colony in Pokrov to a strict regime colony in Melehovo.
