Airports in Finland have found a way to combat GPS jamming by Russia

Three airports in eastern Finland have decided to restore the operation of radio navigation equipment to facilitate the landing of planes due to interference with GPS satellite navigation by Russia.

About this, as European Truth writes, the Reuters agency reports.

Two Finnish airports operated by Finavia in the cities of Joensuu and Savonlinna, about an hour's drive from the border of Finland with Russia, in September installed upgraded ground equipment.

Another airport in Lappeenranta plans to do the same as soon as possible.

Radar ranging equipment, previously widely used in aviation, provides an alternative method of landing landing for aircraft during GPS jamming.

“We retained some previous system infrastructure, even if it wasn't necessarily operational. Now we have been able to upgrade it to put it back into service,” – Finavia's head of infrastructure and security, Henri Hansson, told Reuters.

Finland believes Russia is jamming GPS signals in the east of its country and in the Baltic region. sea to protect its oil ports and other strategic facilities from Ukrainian airstrikes or drones.

Because of this, Finnish air carriers have reported problems with landing planes several times this year.

Estonia also accused Russia of violating international airspace rules by interfering with GPS signals.
