Apple's big lineup of products this fall is almost ready to launch. The iPhone 16 presentation will take place in just a few weeks, and it is expected that the long-awaited product will appear on it: AirPods Max 2.
What to expect from the future AirPods Max 2 headphones at the September presentation, RBC-Ukraine tells (project Styler) with a link to leading Apple news site 9to5Mac.
New chip with powerful audio functions
Despite the high price of AirPods Max, they lack many features found in the more affordable AirPods Pro 2.
The AirPods Max 2 are expected to get a new chip, most likely the H2, which is found in the current AirPods Pro 2. This chip will allow AirPods Max users to experience powerful new audio features that are currently exclusive to the Pro line. These include:
- Adaptive Audio, which dynamically combines Transparency and Noise Cancellation modes depending on your environment
- Conversation Awareness, which automatically lowers volume and isolates voices in response to detected speech
- Personalized Volume, which adjusts media volume depending on your environment
In addition, iOS 18 introduces several new features for AirPods Pro 2, and with H2 they should all come to AirPods Max 2:
- Ability to nod or shake your head to answer Siri
- Voice isolation when you are on a call
- Game-specific improvements to Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking
Often, a new chip doesn't give much cause for excitement. Especially when it comes to headphones. But as the features listed above show, adding the H2 chip to AirPods Max 2 will change the world.
Charging via USB-C
Another good reason to upgrade: port USB-C.
Following Apple's multi-year transition to a new universal port standard, AirPods Max 2 will replace the existing Lightning port and adopt USB-C for charging.
The same is expected to happen with new AirPods 4, which are also likely to be unveiled at the iPhone 16 event next month. The first AirPods product to receive USB-C charging was the AirPods Pro 2, which switched to this standard last fall.
It's slow progress, but with the arrival of USB-C on the AirPods Max, we're officially one step closer to the dream of living with one USB-C.
New colors
Apple plans to introduce many new color options for AirPods Max 2.
Currently, the first generation AirPods Max are available in five colors:
- Space gray
- Pink
- Green
- Silver
- Sky blue

There is no information about what exactly will be the new color scheme. However, you can expect a similar number of options with AirPods Max 2.
AirPods Max were released in 2020, and colors like Midnight and Starlight have since become staples for Apple.
Replacement for Smart Case
For clarity, this is mostly speculation. There have been no clear rumors that Apple will replace the Smart Case for the AirPods Max – although such a patent may exist.
But surely four years is long enough for that , for Apple to come up with the best, possibly more protective case for AirPods Max users.
The original Smart Case was one of the main criticisms of the first AirPods Max, so we'll probably see a new case with the AirPods Max 2.
Unknown price
The original AirPods Max debuted with a high markup of $549. These days you can often buy them at a discount. But the emergence of competing options raises the question of whether Apple will charge the same price for the AirPods Max 2.
The compared model Beats Studio Pro from Apple is on sale for $329. The recently launched Sonos Ace headphones retail for $449 and can currently be had for $399.
AirPods Max 2: the long-awaited update
While none of the expected features for the AirPods Max 2 are particularly revolutionary, they should still add up to an attractive option for interested buyers.
Four years have passed since the debut of the first AirPods Max, making this update long overdue. Especially considering that during this time, AirPods Pro 2 have been constantly adding great new features that the original AirPods Max missed.
