DC: Vincent D'Onofrio's swamp dreams
Revealed for his role in Full Metal Jacket, Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, Vincent D'Onofrio is also known for playing the role of Wilson Fisk, also known as The Kingpin, in the Netflix series Daredevil. Matt Murdock's nemesis made his big comeback as the American actor in the series Hawkeye, which had deeply divided audiences when it was released in 2021, and then in the series Echo. In March 2025, the series Daredevil: Born Again, whose first images were recently revealed, will put Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk back in the spotlight. With its title inspired by Frank Miller's comics, the series promises to reinvigorate fans' interest in these characters.
During a Q&A session at a panel at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Vincent D'Onofrio said his favorite comic book characters are Captain America and Spider-Man for Marvel, and Batman and Swamp Thing for DC Comics. He adds: “I always dreamed of playing Swamp Thing.”As a reminder, Swamp Thing, or The Swamp Thing, was created in 1970 by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Alec Holland, a scientist working near a swamp in Louisiana and whose research attracts the greed of a voracious and unscrupulous company, is the victim of a bomb attack in his laboratory. Lying in the swamp, he transforms into Swamp Thing. The comic book series has seen a resurgence of interest thanks to the run by legendary British screenwriter Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta).
We recall that director James Mangold (Logan, Le Mans 66, Indiana Jones and the Clock of Destiny) will direct a Swamp Thing film for the James Gunn-led DCU. This is the perfect opportunity for Vincent D'Onofrio to apply for the role of the Swamp Thing. The film does not yet have a release date. James Mangold is currently working on A Complete Unknown, his biopic about American singing legend Bob Dylan, scheduled to hit French theaters on January 29, 2025. The American director is also working on a Star Wars film set 25,000 years before the events of the prequel. That gives the two men some time to get in touch!
