Advertising on pirate sites spread viruses to nearly a million devices

< P > According to Microsoft, the attack was large -scale and without selective targeting. The source of infection was the domains of Movies7 [.] Net and 0123Movie [.] Art. They directed users to the pages of technical support, from where harmful software was placed on Discord, Dropbox and Github.

< P > Although the exact mechanism of infection is not revealed, fraudulent sites proposed to download programs that contained a malicious code. Software could steal information or provide remote access to the device.

< P > Attack used signed certificates for masking. As of January 2025, Microsoft found 12 certificates that have already been recalled. The second stage of attack included collecting system data, browser activity tracking and open tabs.

< p > infection began in December and covered both private and corporate PCs. Discord, Dropbox and Github deleted malicious files. Microsoft Defender now detects and blocks used in Malware attack.
