Réal Chayer, a 59-year-old karate trainer from Saint-Lin-Laurentides, was arrested Monday by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) before appearing at the Palais de justice of Joliette to respond to 61 new charges of sexual offenses.

He remained detained for further proceedings. The events with which he is accused took place between July 2001 and December 2022, specifies the SQ.

Réal Chayer had already been arrested for the first time on the 17 last May for sexual assault, sexual interference and incitement to contact. He was then released on several conditions.

The investigation, specifies the SQ, tends to demonstrate that the suspect had access to his victims in a context of a situation of authority linked to his involvement in sport, among other things as a coach.
