Abramovich to donate £2.3bn for Ukraine, Media

Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich to donate £2.3bn ($2.8bn) from Chelsea FC sale to a fund for Ukraine. However, the corresponding decision must be approved by the European Union. This is reported by The Telegraph.

The publication notes that the amount, which will become one of the largest charitable donations to war victims in history, can be transferred to an as-yet unnamed fund within a few weeks.

Government insiders say the new foundation is on the verge of getting Charity Commission approval. from Europe as Abramovich is also sanctioned there.

Former Unicef ​​UK chief executive Mike Penrose will lead the fund under an agreement struck between the government and Abramovich when a sale agreement was signed last May Chelsea.

Details on the charity's management and projects will be revealed in the next two weeks. Penrose is believed to have been in constant contact with the government and visited Ukraine throughout 2022.
