About half a million Ukrainians may come to Poland by winter

During winter due to problems Between 200,000 and 500,000 Ukrainians may arrive in Poland with heating.

As Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes, citing Pavel Shefernaker, Deputy Chairman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, this will be a challenge not only for Poland, but also for the whole of Central and Eastern Europe.

In turn, the Polish political scientist and professor Maciej Duszczyk stressed that the country is on the verge of accepting refugees.

“We must be prepared to the scenario that we cannot solve this problem alone. We can first resettle new arrivals inside the country, but if we fail, we must do it within the EU, having coordinated this matter with other members of the Commonwealth. However, this should still be voluntary and not forced resettlement. Such a scenario should be worked out and ready for action,” the analyst notes.

Also, an additional problem of winter migration that must be taken into account is the high cost of staying refugees. According to Professor Duschik, by the end of August 2022, there were approximately 2-2.2 million Ukrainians in Poland. This group includes those who lived in Poland before the start of the war (about 1.1-1.2 million) and war refugees (approx. 900 thousand – 1 million).

According to the Ministry of the Interior affairs and administration, from the beginning of the war until September 4, 5 million 676 thousand Ukrainians crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border, of which 75% are adults.
