Around 7 a.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to a building on Saint-Georges Street, or Route 117, which was engulfed in flames. It was a commercial building with accommodation upstairs.

After many hours of fighting the blaze, around 2:30 p.m., they discovered an inanimate person, said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the SQ.

The victim was transported to a hospital and was in critical condition. His death was noted a little later.

The building could be declared a total loss given the extent of the damage, said Ms. Bilodeau.
