Southern Ontario and Quebec are facing a mild spell this weekend. But Environment Canada warns that winter temperatures will return on Sunday and the following days.

Friday, Environment Canada recorded several records for southern Ontario .

Toronto recorded 15.1 degrees. The previous record in the Ontario metropolis, 10.6 degrees, dates back to 1938.

In Ottawa, the mercury was 9.4 degrees Celsius, so that the old record, 7.4 degrees, dated from 1990.

In Quebec, Abitibi and Outaouais also experienced record temperatures.

In Val-d'Or, the temperature was 4.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, almost two degrees warmer than the old record of 2.8 recorded in 1966.

In the Montreal region, the mercury approached 7 degrees, the record recorded in 1990, but without reaching it. The seasonal normal in Montreal is -4 during the day and -14 at night.

Molds are not uncommon in February.

What is special is that it was mild in December, mild in January and mild in February, although the month is not over.

A quote from Jean-Philippe Bégin, meteorologist at Environment Canada

Certainly winter has not said its last word, adds the meteorologist. From Sunday it will be cooler and cooler from west to east. We will return to normal over the next ten days. We should not think that there will not be other snowstorms.

As for predictions related to climate change , the data is still to be compiled and the first analyzes will be released in March.

Environment Canada published a note Friday warning motorists of the consequences of melting snows. Thus, the formation of fog banks and the risks of aquaplaning must be taken into account, from the Pontiac region to the Lower River.
