At the scientific station “Akademik Vernadskyi” Ukrainian polar explorers observed an unusual natural phenomenon, the so-called “pearl clouds”, and also noticed a pink “UFO”. This was reported by the National Antarctic Science Center.

"< /em>Do you know what a polar meteorologist's dream is? It is to observe in one day several phenomena that are very rare or absent at all in our region. Such a “combo” it just recently happened to Ukrainian meteorologists at “Vernadsky, –  the message says.

According to polar explorers, lentil-like clouds appeared in the sky in the morning. These clouds have an oval shape, stretched horizontally and have straight, well-defined edges. They are impressive with a bright white color, sometimes with a multi-colored glow, and often overlap each other, creating the impression of a stack of plates.

"So our polar explorers joke that these are Antarctic UFOs, because they look like alien spaceships. In addition, due to the peculiarities of the formation of lentil-shaped clouds, they do not move, but seem to “hang” at one point. So while they were hanging over “Vernadsky”, the sun went down over the horizon, “illuminating” the sky is pink.

And in the afternoon on the sky “appeared” pearly clouds. They are very thin, so they are practically invisible against the background of diffused light. But during sunset, when it drops a few degrees below the horizon, the light is reflected from the ice crystals in the clouds in such a way that the optical effect of iridescence occurs. He just “paints” clouds in different colors”, – the polar explorers explained.
