The stone, which received the name "Cheyava Falls", attracted the attention of scientists with its unusual features that indicate the possible existence of life in the ancient world.
The analysis showed that the stone may contain organic compounds and structures that could to form in the presence of water, suggesting that liquid water once existed in this region of Mars. However, the final confirmation of the hypothesis of ancient life will require further research.
The stone, which became the 22nd sample from the collected rover, was collected on July 21 in the northern part of Neretva Vallis — of the ancient river bed, which once filled the Lake crater. Scientists have discovered that Cheyava Falls contains organic molecules and signs of chemical reactions potentially associated with microbial life. However, the exact origin of the stone and the influence of the surrounding rocks remain unknown.
