A fifty-year-old died Saturday evening after swerving fatally on a snowmobile on a trail in the Thetford Mines area, in Chaudière-Appalaches.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on trail number 10 heading north, according to Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

For a reason that remains to be clarified, the snowmobiler swerved violently before ending his race in a ditch.

The other snowmobilers who accompanied him did not witness the accident.

The 50-year-old man was seriously injured. Resuscitation maneuvers were attempted on site.

He was transported by ambulance to a hospital center, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
