The man, 39, was recruited by Russian special services through social networks and began collecting information about Ukrainian artillery positions and checkpoints in the Sloviansk area. He passed this data on to the enemy to help strike at Ukrainian positions. The SBU press service reports.
The agent traveled around the area and covertly recorded the location of Ukrainian troops, and then reported the information to his handlers. He maintained contact with Russian intelligence officers through a “liaison officer” – a former resident of Lyman, who is now fighting on the side of the occupiers.
The SBU exposed the spy and detained him when he tried to pass on data about the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of his work for the enemy was seized from him. The detainee has been charged with high treason and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
