A railway worker who helped the Russian intelligence services obtain data on the routes of movement of Ukrainian defenders and military equipment will appear before the court in the Kharkiv region.
This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the prosecutor's office, a 48-year-old man who has been working in various positions at JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” for many years, being pro-Russian and having access to the automated database of the transport enterprise, “leaked” information from it enemy.
The accused passed on to his acquaintance, a clergyman, information about the departure and arrival times and routes of trains transporting military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv, Poltava and Sumy regions.
The clergyman, in turn, sent this data directly to the Russian curator in the form of marks on Google Maps.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of law enforcement officers, with the assistance of the management of the regional branch “Southern Railway” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”, the enemy agent was exposed. During searches at the defendant's residence, a mobile phone with evidence of illegal activity was discovered and seized.
The railway worker is awaiting trial while in custody. The man will be tried in the Lozov City District Court of the Kharkiv region. The defendant faces up to five years in prison.
A pre-trial investigation is ongoing regarding the clergyman to whom the defendant sent the data.
