A priest who spied for Russian intelligence services will be tried in Kharkiv

A priest who spied for the Russian Federation will be tried in Kharkiv.

This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the prosecutor's office, the 50-year-old rector of one of the temples, who is a citizen of the Russian Federation, established contact with an employee of the Russian special services in 2024.

The priest's task was to collect data on the movement of military equipment and personnel of Ukrainian defenders by rail along territory of the Kharkiv region.

The rector of the temple involved his acquaintance, who works at Ukrzaliznytsia, in the illegal activity.

The railway worker passed this information on to the priest, who, in turn, sent the data to the Russian curator in the form of marks on Google Maps.

When communicating with each other, the railway employee and the rector took measures for conspiracy — used a code, regularly deleted correspondence.

Both enemy agents were exposed. The priest is awaiting trial in custody.

He will be tried in the Ordzhonikidzevskiy District Court of Kharkiv. The accused faces up to fifteen years in prison with confiscation of property.

The case regarding the railway worker has also already been referred to court, he will be tried under Part 1 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
