A new word in technology: China has created the world's largest energy storage

The plant has an output power of 30 MW and is equipped with 120 high-speed magnetic levitation flywheels.

China Energy Construction Shanxi Power Engineering Institute and Shanxi Electric Power Construction Company have built a 30 MW power plant . This — China's first grid-connected flywheel-based energy storage project and the world's largest, writes PV Magazine.

The technology provider for the device was BC New Energy, and the main investor — Shenzhen Energy Group.

The installation has an output power of 30 MW and is equipped with 120 high-speed magnetic levitation flywheels. Every 10 flywheels form a block of energy storage and frequency regulation. At the same time, a total of 12 units of energy storage and frequency regulation form an array that is connected to the power grid at a voltage level of 110 kV.

The device allows innovative and more technological use of a semi-buried underground system of wells designed to provide a safe environment for operation, waterproofing, cooling and flywheel maintenance.

Flywheel energy storage technology — it is a form of mechanical energy storage that works by accelerating a rotor (flywheel) to a very high speed and keeping the energy in the system as kinetic energy.

Compared to other mechanical energy storage technologies such as hydraulic pumps and compressed air , flywheel storage has higher energy and power density, higher efficiency and faster response.
