New publishing house “Grushka” was founded in Ukraine. It will work with books on philosophy, will pay special attention to the translation of foreign philosophical texts and will involve authors who are interested in philosophical ideas.

The focus of the publication will be essay writing, autofiction, philosophical texts and short prose. This is reported by “Chitomo”.

The first book published by “Grushka” will be “Everyone's body. A book about freedom” by the British writer Olivia Lang.

The founder of the publishing house Oleksandra Shmykova said that the publishing portfolio is planned to be completed by the end of 2024. In general, “Grushka” will work with essay writing, autofiction, philosophical texts and short prose, special attention will be paid to personal and social transformations.

I decided to create a publishing house because I felt an acute lack of texts in the Ukrainian language that corresponded to my interests. These are the works with which it is not easy to spend time, but which allow you to see the world differently. “Grushka” publishing house is a project whose goal is to provide a platform for voices from different cultural contexts, in an attempt to describe the reality around us and to offer new ways of seeing the world through deep personal experience, Shmykova notes for Chitomo.

< p>The “Grushka” team consists of translator Yaroslava Mashyko, editor Iryna Kurganska and translator Iryna Goyal.

We select translators based on their experience working with similar texts. It is important for us that the project team has a common understanding of what we want to get at the end. In the case of the works of Olivia Lang, I turned to Ms. Yaroslava (translator of “Everyone's Body”) after reading the book “Girl, Woman, Other” in her translation. We agreed on cooperation with Ms. Iryna (the “Krudo” translator) after the test task. With her, we discussed the stylistic nuances of the text and had a common understanding of how to reproduce the author's style. I would also like to note the work of the editor – Mrs. Iryna, who ensured the preservation of the authenticity of the text – emphasizes the founder.
