A 32-year-old previously convicted smuggler of military men abroad was detained in Lviv. He organized the departure of evaders under the guise of IT workers for $13,000. This was reported on January 21 by the press service of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense of the Western Region.
According to the investigation, a previously convicted Lviv man arranged for a conscript to travel to Poland under the guise of an IT company specialist. For $13,000, he promised to update the client's account details, prepare the necessary permits, and find a job at a foreign company, on whose behalf he would go on a foreign business trip. He also undertook to enter information into electronic information systems about his acquisition of the right to travel outside Ukraine. While receiving $6,000, the suspect was detained.
“During authorized searches of his apartment, military registration documents and passport data of 23 more potential clients were discovered and seized. Currently, the smuggler has been given a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to deposit over 240,000 hryvnias in bail” — the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The 32-year-old smuggler was reported on suspicion of organizing the illegal smuggling of people across the state border of Ukraine. The article provides for up to nine years of imprisonment with a three-year deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities and with confiscation of property.
