A resident of Kalush Ivano-Frankivsk region is suspected of embezzling more than 1.17 million hryvnia, which people donated for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This reports Office of the Prosecutor General.
From May to August 2022, the suspect, calling himself a volunteer, raised funds through social networks to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and people in need of help in connection with the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
He collected donations to personal bank accounts for the purchase of cars, night vision devices, drones, thermal imaging sights, etc.
Thus, the 27-year-old man received more than UAH 1 million 171 thousand from citizens, which he embezzled. There are military men among the victims.
The attacker was declared suspected under Part 3 of Article 201-2 (Illegal and the use of humanitarian aid, charitable donations or gratuitous aid for profit) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The fraudster was detained, for which he faces up to seven years in prison with confiscation. The “volunteer” himself; admitted that he is a gamer.
