A fraudster who cynically defrauded the mother of a fallen soldier will be tried in Ukraine

In September of last year, a resident of Kamianets-Podilskyi turned to the police and reported that she had allegedly been cheated by the fiancee of a soldier's son, who was considered missing.

The victim explained that since June 2022, when her son went missing, she started communicating on messenger with a girl who introduced herself as his fiancée. The latter told the woman that she was also serving in the war zone and had information that the applicant's son had been captured by the enemy. And they say, for a certain fee, you can facilitate his release. In addition, the perpetrator extorted money from the victim allegedly for the repair of military equipment and other needs.

The woman believed the swindler and, grasping for any hope, sent money to the pseudo-bride.

When the sum reached almost half a million hryvnias, the victim learned that her son had been found — he died on the battlefield.

The woman realized that the pseudo-bride had cheated her and turned to the police for help.

Law enforcement officers identified the perpetrator — she turned out to be a 23-year-old resident of Kamianets-Podilskyi. She never served in the army. And the funds that the victim sent for two years were spent by the fraudster on personal needs.

At present, the investigators of the Kamianets-Podilsky District Police Department have already completed the investigation. The indictment against the defendant was referred to the court. For what she committed, she faces up to 8 years in prison.
