< p>According to journalists, large-scale excavations are continuing in the province of Kyrikkale.

Specialists have established that the Turkish village of Buklukale was the first and main settlement of the Cimmerians. During the excavations, archaeologists discovered not only artifacts, but also a fortress, which indicates military actions in which representatives of the nomadic people took an active part.

During the excavations, which lasted 14 years, archaeological monuments were revealed – “upper garden” and “lower garden”.

"In this fortress we found materials with the image of animals belonging to the Scythians. In addition, we found a small figure of a man riding a horse, which, in our opinion, is probably related to the Cimmerians. We hope that we have identified their first settlement or fortress in Anatolia”,  – quotes the publication of the Japanese archaeologist Matsamura.

Büklükale is considered the earliest Cimmerian settlement in Anatolia, and the revealed artifacts, according to experts, may reveal the secret of the Cimmerians. On all finds, you can see images of people riding horses, as well as arrowheads, which testify to the participation of the Cimmerians in military conflicts.

"On the upper layer, we found the remains of the Ottoman period. Below we found artifacts from the Hellenistic period, the time of the arrival of Alexander the Great. Under it we found architectural remains. Before that we found traces of Lydians. Below we found a fortress built by the Cimmerians, which is what we were aiming for… The excavations are still ongoing, but, interestingly, we found almost seven arrowheads from the fortress. Among them we found several bent ones. This indicates that there was a battle”, – summarized the Japanese specialist who heads the excavations.
