Apple is tackling a booming sector: home security. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is reportedly developing a new connected doorbell, equipped (like iPhones) with facial recognition. We will no longer be able to lose our keys, but we may lose our minds…
Always on the edge of innovation, Apple promises that the Face ID technology of iPhones will be simple, practical, and strong with impeccable security thanks to the Secure Enclave chip, which protects biometric data. However, this advance is not without raising questions. Is it really the revolution we were waiting for, or simply a new step in the collection of personal data ? Then, we can really say that Big Brother will be at your door.
This Apple doorbell, compatible with HomeKit, integrates into the existing home automation ecosystem. As reported by Siècle Digital, the idea is attractive to some: a home where each device communicates, offering security and comfort. One of two things: first, it moves us ever further towards a world where we no longer have anything to do; On the other hand, the question of interoperability between Apple (or even non-Apple) equipment and confidentiality issues remains unresolved.
In fact, the development of this doorbell is accompanied by a series of new products in the pipeline: surveillance cameras, home screens, and other connected devices. Apple, with its Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Proxima chip, aims to push the integration of its products even further. This is reminiscent of their “Vision Pro” augmented reality headset: Apple's technology may be a dream, but the stakes remain high. How far will users be willing to go for their comfort and sense of exclusivity ?
In the end, this doorbell seems to be just one piece of Apple's puzzle. While technological innovation is undeniable, questions about data management and dependence on the brand ecosystem are only just beginning.
