A court in Pervomaisk convicted a man for a series of frauds and thefts during martial law

On November 20, 2024, the Pervomaisky City and District Court of the Mykolaiv Region announced the verdict in the case of a resident of the region, accused of a number of crimes, including fraud and theft, committed repeatedly.

This is reported by the local publication Pervomaisk Info.

Details of the case:

The defendant, having a criminal past, continued his criminal activities in 2022. He posted fake ads for apartment rentals on the OLX platform using fake details and bank accounts. The victims transferred the funds as a deposit for the rental of housing, which did not exist. Criminal actions concerned citizens in various cities of Ukraine, in particular Lviv, Uzhhorod and others.

Also, the attacker, taking advantage of the trust of the owner of the rented house during martial law, gained access to her bank account and stole money by placing an order on a mobile phone.

Court decision:

The accused pleaded guilty to most episodes of fraud, but did not agree with the qualification of theft under martial law, considering his actions to be fraud. Despite this, the court found him guilty under Articles 185 part 4 and 190 part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and made a decision on 5 years of imprisonment.

This case once again emphasizes the importance of caution in online transactions and trusting relationships with strangers
