59-year-old fraudster pretended to be a phone repair master and defrauded six citizens

The offender was reported on suspicion of fraud. Now he faces up to three years in prison.

The police established: having decided to earn extra money at someone else's expense, the attacker placed an ad on one of the online platforms for the provision of phone repair services. Within a week, six Odessans contacted the “master”. The man assured customers that he would quickly fix their mobile phones, scheduled meetings in the Primorsky district of the city, took away the gadgets and promised to call them as soon as the repairs were completed. However, he sold other people's property and no longer answered citizens' calls.

The victims turned to the police for help. In total, the attacker caused them material damage in the amount of almost 32 thousand hryvnias.

The police searched for the offender and seized his mobile phone with information that is of evidentiary value in the case. The police also found one of the gadgets sold by the man and returned it to the owner, measures are currently being taken to establish the location of the others.

«If there is sufficient evidence, we have informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 1, 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is about taking someone else's property by deception, that is, fraud, in particular, committed repeatedly. The offender faces up to three years in prison. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Odessa,” said Oksana Naydenova, senior investigator of police department No. 1 of the Odessa District Police Department No. 1.
