38-year-old Salvan Momika, known for burning the Quran in Sweden, was shot dead in his apartment in Södertälje. The incident occurred during a live broadcast on TikTok, and police confirmed the death from a gunshot wound.

38-year-old Salvan Momika, who had previously burned Qurans, was shot dead last night in the city of Södertälje, south of Stockholm.

The man was found shot at the scene of the crime in an apartment and taken to hospital

– said Daniel Vikdal, a spokesman for the Stockholm Region Police, in an interview with the SVT Nyheter television channel.

Police confirmed that the man with the gunshot wound had died.

Swedish police are not naming the man, but several Swedish media outlets have identified him as Salvan Momika.

Background

Momika became famous when he burned the Quran in several parts of Sweden in 2023, including in Malmö. For this, he was accused of inciting racial hatred.

Salwan Momika is originally from Iraq and was raised Catholic. During the persecution of Christians by the Islamic State in the late 00s, he was a security guard for the pro-Christian Assyrian Patriotic Party in the city of Mosul.

After disputes with a leader in his group, Salwan Momika fled to Germany in 2017. He later moved to Sweden, where he received a temporary residence permit in 2021. Early in his life in this country, he had a criminal record for threatening a man with a knife.
